Our friends at OTL (Office of Teaching and Learning) are offering a series of upcoming
workshops for graduate students:
- International Teaching Assistant Workshop: Thursday, February 8, 2:30 – 4:30pm: Register
- Inclusive teaching workshop: Tuesday, March 5, 3:00 – 5:30pm
- Hybrid teaching strategies workshop: Friday, March 22, 10:00am – 12:00
- Teaching philosophies and dossiers workshop: Wednesday, April 10, 2:00- 4:00pm
Are you a graduate student involved in research on teaching and learning?
(ex. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, SoTL; Discipline-Based Education Research, DBER)
Consider applying for the COESP Graduate Student BioEd Research Award, applications due Feb 23. Our award recipient will give a talk in April highlighting their research, watch for further information. Come out to support your fellow graduate students and gain exposure to education research!

SABER is a scientific community whose members develop theory and generate evidence with the goal of improving post-secondary biology education. SABER fosters Biology Education Research (BER) and its dissemination.

This term we shine the Spotlight on Julia Mellary, MSc student with Dr. Dan Grunspan. Read in our attached Spotlight Series about Julia’s research that earned her the Bill Wood Graduate Student Talk Award at the recent Society for the Advancement of Biology Education (SABER) conference.
Julia traveled to SABER on a COESP Travel Grant! Start thinking now about conference season and plan to apply for a COESP Travel Grant for conferences with an emphasis on DBER and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)
