Travel, Training, and Development (TTD) Grant

COESP supports conference travel and Professional Development through our TTD Grants

COESP TRAVEL, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT AWARD 

Award Description: 

COESP Training, Travel and Development Awards are funds available from COESP to defray costs for a variety of professional learning opportunities related to Teaching and Learning. These may include, but are not limited to, conference travel and registration, training session travel and registration, professional memberships, and other learning opportunities specifically dedicated to teaching, assessment, and research of post-secondary biology education. 

Please note that travel and training funds are available for conferences and professional development opportunities specifically related to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) or Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER).  

Examples of conferences include:  

  • STLHE: Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education 
  • SABER Society for the Advancement of Biology Education and Research 
  • ISSOTL: International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning 
  • WCSE: Western Conference on Science Education 
  • Other societal meetings will also be considered, provided the primary purpose in attending is presenting your SoTL or DBER research and/or attending SoTL and DBER sessions (eg: attending From Concept to Classroom, in advance of the American Physiology Summit) 

Award Value: 

  • up to $1000  
  • Final award values will be determined based on the requested budget and the total number of funded applicants 

Award Eligibility:

College of Biological Science: 

  • Undergraduate Students 
  • Graduate Students 
  • Postdocs 
  • Sessional Instructors 
  • Staff 
  • Faculty 

Applying: 

1. Applicants will submit a document (approximately 250-words in length) containing:  

  • Rationale for attending the conference or training session, examples include:
    • Presenting research 
    • Fostering collaboration
    • Networking toward next career steps 
    • Attending a nearby international conference
    • Attending a particularly relevant session or presentation
    • Representing COESP, CBS, and the University of Guelph 
  • Budget justification, should include:
    • Outline of budget
    • Demonstration of value 
  • Need, should include:
    • Feasibility of attending without this support 
    • Discussion of alternative funding avenues which have been investigated 

2. Successful applicants will be required to share what they learned from the funded experience during an informal community discussion organized by COESP.
