Flipping the Laboratory: Investment in pre-lab explanatory videos, to optimize lab time and learning

Project Summary:

The labs included in HK*3600/4600 courses require a high level of theoretical knowledge and technical skill. However, past years have not offered adequate “in-lab” time to provide students an effective learning environment. As such, we propose improving these courses by creating instructional videos, providing the students detailed theory and instruction on how to properly execute and learn from each lab, prior to entering each lab. In doing so, students will benefit from being able to ask more specific questions, with the basic operational knowledge already in hand before arriving at the lab.
